Analytical Report “Legal Needs of Displaced Persons in Ukraine and Abroad”
The analytical report “Legal Needs of Displaced Persons in Ukraine and Abroad” presents the findings of a study on the legal needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and Ukrainian citizens who have sought refuge abroad or experienced displacement due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Based on surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions, experts from the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine collected and analyzed data on the key issues faced by displaced Ukrainians both within the country and abroad.
The study employed a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research methods. Within the qualitative framework, 31 semi-structured interviews were conducted with IDPs and Ukrainian citizens residing abroad. For the quantitative analysis, an online survey was conducted with 325 respondents. Additionally, two focus groups were held: one with displaced persons and another with representatives of legal clinics.
The study participants represented a variety of categories, including internally displaced persons receiving assistance within Ukraine, Ukrainian citizens abroad under temporary protection, and students and faculty members of legal clinics, who themselves may also fall under the category of displaced persons.
The findings aim to support Ukrainian and international legal clinics, as well as other organizations working with displaced Ukrainians, in better understanding and addressing their legal needs.
This research was conducted as part of the project “Strengthening the Capacity of Legal Clinics in Ensuring Access to Justice in Wartime Conditions,” implemented with the support of the USAID Justice for All Activity.
