“Four unforgettable days in “Donetsk Switzerland” passed as one. For the Ukrainian legal clinics’ administrators, it was an exciting journey of getting useful knowledge, fine rest, and communication with like-minded people”.
On 9 – 12 August, the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine conducted Summer School 2020 for the legal clinics’ administrators in Sviatohirsk, Donetsk region with a topic of “Proper Administration is a key to legal clinic success”.
Head of the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine Yuliia Lomzhets commented:
“The monitoring of the legal clinics have shown the importance of an administrator, a person called to organize the daily work of a legal clinic. That is why the 2020 Summer School is exactly for them. Our goal is to optimize the work of the legal clinics improving its effectiveness and innovativeness. One of the most special features was a chosen place for the School – the town of Sviatohirsk that impresses with its beauty and hospitality. Our rafting session on Siverskyi Donets river was just incredible”.
What is like a legal clinic administrator?
During the first day of the School, the participants discussed recent threats & challenges of activities of the legal clinics. Particularly, those concerning a distant studying, refocusing to the new forms and methods of work – from the active involvement of clients, legal education to the specificities of interaction with the legal clinics’ students online).
The following issues raised too:
- legal clinics monitoring as an effective instrument of verification compliance to the Association Standards;
- ways to improve the Standards of the Legal Clinics Activity in Ukraine;
- requirements, liability for the positions of administration and head of legal clinic;
- strengthening present legal clinics communication capacity;
- changes to the ALCU local documents;
- draft projects of the typical position descriptions of the head and administrator of the legal clinic.
Summer School 2020 conducted for the development of the legal clinics and improvement of its both organizational and administration potential. That is why the most important of the School was a topic of process automation in the legal clinics and digitizing of paperwork as a requirement of time.
Why do the legal clinics need process automation?
The representatives of the legal clinics gained practical knowledge and skills upon creating digital registers and archives of cases using the Notion software from trainers: Andrii Udovychenko – СРО в Bot&Partners, Notion Pro. LLM, Cornell Law School (USA) and Mykyta Pidhaiinyi – СЕО у Bot&Partners, Legal Engineer in Opendatabot. Apart from it, the participants had a chance to discover some legal innovations and useful services for optimizing their work as well as learned to work with the text editor software.
Not just active work
The participants had not only education sessions but also a cool program during the third day of the School: rafting on the Siverskyi Donets river, team building activities, contests with prizes, relaxing time.
Kyrylo Sanzherevskyi noted:
“I have never thought that the training could be harmonically unified with resting and meeting new people. I am grateful to the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine for such incredible impressions”.
Lawyers can use a straightforward language
During the School fourth day editor of the alternative legal resource Lойер, Yana Sobko conducted a masterclass. “How to present a legal clinic great”.The participants analyzed the ALCU website & social network content. Practical exercises helped to actualize knowledge and try their skills in writing an easy to perceive text and creating informative data of resources.
What is next?
At the end of the School, the participants were notified of another contest for legal clinics this time to aim the fastest and most progressive implementation of communication and process automation. The details will appear very soon.
