The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine will develop a new modern legal education standard in Ukraine that will meet the needs of the market and employers. This was reported by heads of two ministries during a meeting with young lawyers.
Minister of Education and Science Lilia Grinevich noted that today Ukrainian legal education needs to be reformed, as the training of lawyers loses against the background of European standards.
“This new standard of higher law education should be filled with new content. It will only become so when not only theoretical lecturers from higher education institutions will be written – and when it will be developed, people who are practitioners who understand what is needed in practical legal specialties, “- said Lilia Grinevich.
According to the Minister, an effective element of improving the quality of education should become standardized examinations on the right. “We are launching a new experiment, which involves the introduction of external testing to the magistracy of law. 9 universities have joined this pilot project “, – informed Lilia Grinevich. According to the Minister of Education and Science, applications for admission will be accepted by July 18, testing will be conducted on July 23, and the first results will be announced on July 27.
As the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Pavel Petrenko has informed, now practically all higher educational institutions are preparing lawyers, regardless of their professional orientation. In many cases, the quality of such education is extremely low, students do not receive the necessary knowledge and can not find a good job.
According to the Minister of Justice, a joint working group was set up at the level of two ministries. “We are ready to participate in this work and to develop legal education standards, which, above all, will be beneficial for each student. So they will receive a diploma that would have cost after graduation. Such a cost is the opportunity to get decent work “, – said the head of the Ministry of Justice.
Pavel Petrenko expressed readiness to personally participate in the work of the joint working group and involve practitioners practicing in it, including the system of free legal aid, who work daily with clients and know exactly what requirements they should apply to graduates of law departments.
The Minister of Justice also invited young lawyers to compete for 1,500 vacancies in the Legal Aid Office, which will provide free services to Ukrainians from September 1.
It should be noted that more than 3000 applicants have already submitted applications for participation. Most of them are young people under 30 years of age.
You can apply for participation in the competition by May 31, 2016, by filling out an application on the website www.legalaid-jobs.in.ua.
