On 20 February 2020 in Kyiv – The Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine received aid from the USAID Financial Sector Transformation Project (FST) of 150 000 US dollars for the potential growth of legal clinics in the spheres of rights protection and legal education among consumers of financial services. The Association currently unites more than 50 members and since 2003 actively works on improving services of legal clinics from the best Ukrainian universities.
USAID Grant will be used for the following goals:
- Growing capacity of the Association to support, help, and monitor the process of legal education and counselling provision by legal clinics network to consumers of the financial services. Institutional growth of the Association as a national focal point for legal clinics. It is planned to conduct a series of education events for teachers and managers of legal clinics, contests for students, information campaigns for legal clinics service optimization in finance.
- Specialized rights protection activities and legal education. Legal clinics of all regions of Ukraine demonstrate its best services in helping consumers of financial services, especially young & low-income persons. Collected material of legal counselling will be published and actively used in further work with people.
- A new specialized legal clinic in Sloviansk for provision of services for people of deoccupied territor Currently, quality legal assistance is accessible for an extremely small part of the inhabitants of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine. It increases the risk of financial fraud among low-income persons, but especially among vulnerable categories – youngsters, seniors, and those who live in rural settlements. Locating in Sloviansk, a new legal clinic will become a specialized hub and will be working for financial services consumers on a stable quality level.
Head of the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine Andrii Halai noted:
«Every legal clinic among more than 50 universities of Ukraine will be able to join this initiative and implement its best developments in rights protection and legal education of financial services consumers. We will develop professionalism and cohesion of legal clinics, strengthen the quality of its work in all regions of Ukraine, in particular, in those that suffered from armed aggression”.

«Legal clinics now have all possibilities to become an active player in financial services consumer’s rights protection. The grant will help Ukrainian legal clinics to be prepared and intuitively ready for work in this important sphere».
