“Will Allow the Program to Change Your Mind?”: About Legal Clinics and Docudays UA

For the sixth consecutive year, the Docudays UA Traveling Human Rights Documentary Film Festival has been taking place in Transcarpathia. This year, the staff of the Legal Clinic held screenings with discussions of six documentaries at UzhNU Law School, in the schools of the city and in gymnasium of Perechyn.

Maria Mendzhul noted that this year aim of the festival is to ask the question: “Will allow the program to change your mind?” This year’s festival is about how our day-to-day life, the habits and ways of communicating are changing because of digital technology, what new opportunities they open to explore reality, and what threats to control and information security lie on the digital network.

On November 18, 2019, a joint screening of documentary “Be careful, it’s chasm” for students of 19th school and students of UzhNU took place.

On November 21, students of Uzhgorod Gymnasium discussed the impact of gadgets and electronic devices on environmental pollution while watching the documentary “Intentional Death”.

The screening continued on February 22 at the Law Faculty, and in particular the films “You, ***, shut up” and “Cacophony of Donbass” that left nobody indifferent.

On November 25, the issues of refugee rights were discussed with the students of School № 20. Among the experts there was invited Doctor of Science, Professor, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Process Sybilla Buletsa. The students were struck by the Ukrainian documentary “No Status Ukraine,” as well as the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers.

The screening in Perechin on December 2, 2019 for gymnasium students was quite interesting. On the screening of the film “You, ***, shut up” was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law Iryna Khokhlova and the Deputy Director of the Legal Clinic Maria Mendzhul. The students did not like the attitude of the hero of the film by the authorities and the police. They told about personal experience of cooperation with local self-government bodies through youth council.

At the end of the 16th Wandering International Docudays UA Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Uzhgorod a photo exhibition “Such as we are: STOP BULLING” will be opened.
